The Black art community mourned an immense loss last year with the passing of acclaimed artist and scholar, David Driskell. Luckily, his legacy is still being honored with two new shows devoted to the life and creations of this premier African American painter. In this feature by Rosalind Bentley for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Driskell's powerful work in Black art takes center stage.
The first show, David Driskell: Icons of Nature and History, opens at the High Museum of Art from Feb. 6 - May 9. The second show, David Driskell, opens on Feb. 16 at the September Gray Fine Art Gallery.
“It appeared to be the same kind of gestures and the same kind of care for the paint and materials as he did when he was preparing food. With David, everything was very nuanced and full of value and interest.” - Curlee Holton
